The gym is very good, clean, and with lots of equipment. Another thing to notice is that the elevators can be noisy if your room is closeby. The staff were responsive and tried to fix it, so I cannot really complain about them despite the minor inconvenience. The air conditioning was not working and it was uncomfortably hot. On the plus side, the bed was big and comfortable, and the room had a mini fridge. It appeared clean enough, until I looked closely at the carpet and saw that it was very dusty - I even found a used sock under the desk, presumably left there from the previous guest. My room in one of the top floors was large and well appointed. The hotel is well maintained even though it looks old and dated. It is heavily policed and it doesn't feel unsafe, yet it is quite sad. There are lots of homeless people around. The location is perfect to visit Yale University, although the area is not the most pleasant environment. This hotel is in the center of New Haven. Location is prime and my bed was very comfortable. I found it odd that they were that limited on alcoholic beverages at a hotel lounge. I then tried for an Irish Coffee strike 2 finally settled on a beer. I ordered an Aperol Spritz which they did not have. To finish the evening I went to floor 19 to the hotel lounge. The hotel is old but elegantly decorated and is within walking distance to many restaurants, stores and bars. No instructions were present I finally utilized the buzzer and they lifted the gate for me. You are supposed to use your room card to exit ($20 fee attached to bill) but the card would not work making me hold up other cars. A women named Brenda helped serve the meals and she was outstanding, efficient and friendly. We had a business meeting on floor M with breakfast and lunch. But honestly why would you not just make it available. I called down to check on this and the desk clerk did credit me for wifi. I cannot remember any hotel in the last decade that charges for wifi. I then went to hook into the wifi only to find out it is not free. Basically to use it you had to lean into the toilet which was awkward. The full length mirror was in the bathroom in front of the toilet. Once in the room it was well appointed other than a very small bathroom. Due to the late check in I was left with minimal time to refresh from my long drive. I arrived for a business dinner/meeting at 4:20 pm was told my room was not ready yet.
